Monday, May 22, 2017 - 11:00am
The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) District received notification that Petaluma’s Quiet Zone will take effect beginning Wednesday, May 24. Once Quiet Zones are established, SMART trains will no longer use horns at railroad crossings in those areas, unless there is an emergency. Please use caution near all railroad crossings and near all tracks and trains. Petaluma joins Novato, San Rafael and the County of Marin, on the list of jurisdictions that have established Quiet Zones. SMART anticipates other jurisdictions will also establish Quiet Zones throughout the 43-mile initial route.

- Don’t be distracted: Always be alert and aware around all railroad tracks and crossings.
- Drivers should never stop on the railroad tracks, and never cross the tracks until you are sure you have enough room to make it safely through to the other side.
